Andy Barber
I started my working life at KPMG in 2004 and am a Fellow of the ICAEW having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2006, now registered to practice as a Chartered Accountant. I am also an exam qualified insolvency practitioner. I established Upbeat Consulting in 2022 and since then have been working with businesses in varied roles providing senior support and assistance to finance functions.

I spent over a decade as part of the successful KPMG Restructuring practice in the Midlands, working across virtually all sectors and delivering advice and support to businesses of all sizes.
Latterly I shifted focus to developing and supporting our own people at KPMG and beyond, by first leading the Learning team for the national Restructuring practice - designing and developing a wide range of technical and soft skills courses - and then moving to a new role as Head of the Professional Qualifications team for the entire firm. This has given me a further set of skills that can be put to use in finance leadership and project roles. The latter also included overseeing ensuring the learning progress of over 3,000 active students was maintained during the Covid pandemic - in many ways a restructuring project.

Throughout these roles I also held people and operational leadership responsibilities in the business, supporting hundreds of colleagues around the country directly. I also developed and supported internal finance processes during this time and oversaw implementation of numerous key new solutions.

Since 2022 my work via Upbeat has encompassed interim Financial Director roles, delivering operational and financial restructuring, crisis cash management, extensive stakeholder management work and creating & developing strong teams to allow businesses to succeed.
​
Top priority for me away from work are my wonderful wife and two boys. Upbeat Consulting has given me the opportunity to continue working hard and balance enjoying time with them. I am a huge music fan and a keen armchair follower of cricket and football.
